Case Studies

A customer recently emailed us and told us how much he appreciated our expertise and the efficient way we went about solving his complex wireless networking problem. At VPN Systems we pride ourselves on researching the latest technology and making things happen quickly and efficiently so our customers can get on with their business.

The following case studies illustrate a variety of solutions we have provided for a broad base of customers.

100 Mbps IR link - backup to a gigabit fiber installation

This installation was at the State University of New York - Research Foundation (SUNY-RF), where expansion plans and supply issues with the local ILEC resulted in what was looking like significant down time without connectivity between headquarters and the new offices. Our 100 Mbps FSO (Free Space Optics) link manufactured by Plaintree was quoted, purchased and installed all within 10 days! Today the fiber is in place and the FSO link serves as redundant connectivity.

NY State Department of Agriculture & Markets

NYS Department of Agriculture has contracted with VPN Systems, Inc. to help them develop a field data collection application for kosher foods inspection and enforcement. With our help, NYS Dept. of Agriculture IT staff had a working application in just two days. We provided ‘best practices' training in the Microsoft.NET framework, and created software code objects, to get their application up and running quickly. Their internal programming staff now works with us over-the-phone for support as needed. This joint effort saved the customer at least 8-12 weeks of application development time

The Kosher foods inspection application we helped them develop runs on the Symbol MC9000 we discussed for your application. It connects to the NYS Dept. of Agriculture host computer over the Verizon (CDMA) network and captures product data on Kosher foods. Where there is no UPC bar code, the digital imager/scanner records a picture on the MC9000, which is then logged into the database. Ease of use was critical because this technology is the first that field inspectors have used on the job. Prior to this application they have not used even a desktop or laptop computer. Based on the success of this project, NYS is now implementing email, and voice connectivity with the MC9000

We are particularly sought after by IBM for especially challenging wireless network deployments. Very often we are called in to provide services to resolve problems created when other providers or VARs have improperly implemented a wireless network in a customer environment.Wegmans Food Markets

Wegmans developed their software applications internally with assistance from VPN Systems' business partner Odyssey Software, of Rochester, NY. The applications were developed in the .NET Compact Framework, and provide functionality for managing inventory Counter-to-Counter, Store-to-Store, Re-Order, Shelf Price Audit, and Shrinkage.

Wireless security, seamless roaming between stores, and mobile device management were critical issues for Wegmans. Using current State-of-the Art wireless security capabilities, and a device management software product from Odyssey Software called 'Athena," Wegmans was provided with a secure, yet flexible environment for mobile computing throughout the enterprise.
